Scripture: Exodus 3:11 "But who am I to appear before Pharaoh?" Moses asked God. "How can you expect me to lead the Israelites out of Egypt?"
Observation: Moses has been in Midian tending sheep too long (not that there's anything wrong with that). He's been groomed to deliver God's people from slavery in Egypt, but his failure knocked him off his feet. Moses has been in the penalty box for 40 years. He, after all, killed a man. He's not so sure he can get up and get back into the game. He's not so sure he has the goods. He's lost sight of his purpose and calling. He feels inadequate. Failure can do that to a person.
Application: God hands out huge assignments to us all. As I think about leading Crossroads Church, I oftentimes feel overwhelmed. Who am I and how can God expect me to lead this movement? I've felt that as a father and as a husband as well. God, how do you expect me to juggle all this? And the answer of course comes in verse 12: "Then God told him, 'I will be with you.'" The truth is we can't do it all. We can't pull off the assignments God dishes out to us alone. We need His help. The good news is God is with us RIGHT NOW. The One who later identifies Himself as "I AM THE ONE WHO ALWAYS IS" is the same One who is with us today. He alone makes us adequate.
Prayer: "Father, I make myself available to you today. Please make me capable. Remind me often that you are with me. Amen."
